The Sleeping Almanac
The voice you hear is the creator's own. He cloned it from recordings of his own voice, so every story is told in his voice. If you enjoy falling asleep to it, follow the show so each new story arrives on its own, and leave a rating on Apple Podcasts so other people can find it.
The Book of Enoch was left out of most Bibles, and for a long time people have said it was lost, or hidden, or banned. Most of that is not true, and the true story is stranger and quieter. Tonight, a three hour sleep story about the books that did not make the list: the man in Genesis who did not die, the two hundred watchmen who came down a mountain, the house whose floor and ceiling are both fire, the giants who dreamed, the angel who read to Moses from a tablet, a gospel that is only sayings, and the one church, high in the mountains of Ethiopia, that never once called any of them lost.
Read slowly, in a low voice, beside a lamp in a round highland church in the rain, by a copyist who has never heard that the book on his knees was missing. Told from the texts themselves, with every claim checked against the scholarship, and nothing invented.
This is a seed for our next season, The Lost Books, and Part 2 is on Tuesday: how they came back, from a jar in a cliff above the Dead Sea and a jar in the Egyptian sand.
The Sleeping Almanac retells the world's oldest myths and stories as three hour sleep stories for adults. Calm narration, a slow music bed, no sudden sounds, no mid roll ads. New episodes every Sunday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday night.
