Enheduanna is the first author in human history whose name is attached to what she wrote. She was a real woman with a real job, high priestess of the moon god at Ur, daughter of Sargon of Akkad, and about four thousand three hundred years ago she signed her poems. Tonight is her life and her bad year: the forty two temple hymns, the rebel who drove her out of her own precinct, the poem she wrote from exile as a plea, and the schoolroom copies made centuries after her death that are the reason we can still read her at all.
