Kingdoms at Dusk
Fall asleep inside history. Tonight you are safe and expected in Venice, nearly three hundred years ago, gliding up a quiet side canal by gondola at dusk to the water door of a small family palazzo. Your hosts feed you a kitchen supper of white polenta and small lagoon fish, the lamps burn low because wax is dear, the great bells of San Marco settle across the water, and your bed waits under a heavy quilt with the window open a hand's width to the sound of water lapping stone. Past midnight a gentle rain arrives on the canal, and in Venice rain is a gift, because the wells beneath the squares drink it while the whole city sleeps.
You will hear water lapping quietly against old stone all night long, the far bells of San Marco settling across the lagoon, and a soft rain arriving on the canal and the shutters past midnight.
This is a three hour sleep story. The narration ends softly around the 39 minute mark, and then the water and the rain carry on in the dark until morning. Black screen friendly.
New episodes Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at 6pm Eastern. Nights carry you inside an ordinary evening from the past. Tales, every Friday, tell one true story from history, calm enough to sleep to and interesting enough to stay up for.
