Kingdoms at Dusk
Fall asleep inside history. Tonight you are safe and welcome in the Great Library of Alexandria, more than two thousand years ago, as a visiting scholar allowed to stay past closing to finish copying a text by lamplight. Oil lamps burn low over long shelves of papyrus scrolls, the keeper makes his evening round through the smell of papyrus and cedar oil, a simple supper of bread and figs and watered wine waits in the colonnade, and across the dark harbor the lighthouse of Pharos keeps its steady flame while half the world's knowledge sleeps in its niches around you.
You will hear the quiet night sounds of a great stone house, water lapping in the harbor beyond the colonnade, and the soft wind that moves through a library after everyone has gone home.
This is a three hour sleep story. The narration ends softly around the 39 minute mark, and then the quiet library carries on in the dark until morning. Black screen friendly.
New episodes Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at 6pm Eastern. Nights carry you inside an ordinary evening from the past. Tales, every Friday, tell one true story from history, calm enough to sleep to and interesting enough to stay up for.
