Kingdoms at Dusk
Fall asleep inside history. Tonight you are safe and dry at a small roadside inn in old Japan, more than three hundred years ago, on the great Tokaido road on a night of warm early summer rain. Your straw sandals are retired at the door, your feet are washed at the step, a corridor of paper lanterns leads you to a quiet tatami room, and supper comes to you on a lacquered tray while rain sings on the tiled roof and drips softly from the deep eaves. The kitchen fire is banked under ash, the futon is laid out, and the great road outside goes quiet for the night.
You will hear steady warm rain on the tiles, drops falling from the eaves, the small sounds of a wooden inn settling, and the kitchen fire whispering under its ash.
This is a three hour sleep story. The narration ends softly around the 39 minute mark, and then the rain carries on in the dark until morning. Black screen friendly.
New episodes Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at 6pm Eastern. Nights carry you inside an ordinary evening from the past. Tales, every Friday, tell one true story from history, calm enough to sleep to and interesting enough to stay up for.
